Walk a thousand years in a single day. A tour provided by Trondheim by / Boat /Foot

This is more than a guided walk. It’s an invitation to step into a living tradition that has shaped people, landscapes, and beliefs for over a millennium. You move at human speed, through nature and history braided together, following paths worn smooth by pilgrims long before us. This is the kind of experience that makes you stop, breathe, and think: yes — this is why I came.

Pilgrim’s Day – A Slow Journey to Nidaros

The total distance is approximately 17 kilometers, equivalent to about 12.7 miles.

The route has no demanding climbs and the elevation is gentle, at the end of the tour there are some sets of stairs down the Ila creek, remember that this is still a full days pilgrimage walk. Participants should be comfortable being on their feet and walking at a calm, steady pace for 4-5 hours. This is not a race and not a hike — it’s long-distance walking with space for reflection, conversation, and silence.

You don’t need to be an athlete. You just need legs that work, curiosity that’s awake, and a willingness to walk into something older — and larger — than yourself.

This is not a hike.
This is not a race.
This is a day of walking into history, nature, and yourself.

Join us on a full-day pilgrimage following parts of the 1000-year-old route to Nidaros Cathedral – once the most important pilgrimage destination in Northern Europe, and still the heart of Trondheim today.

Like the Camino de Santiago in Spain, this path has been walked for centuries by people searching for meaning, reflection, connection, or simply a different rhythm. But here, in Norway, the crowds are replaced by forests, lakes, birdsong and wide open space.

We walk through cultural landscapes and quiet nature, sharing stories of Vikings, pilgrims and everyday life along the route. There is time to talk, time to be silent, and time to simply walk.

This is slow travel in practice.
You are allowed to turn your phone off.
You are allowed to breathe.

Along the way we take breaks by small lakes, enjoy freshly brewed coffee and a simple snack, and let the body find its natural pace again.

At Ila Church you receive your first pilgrim stamp.
At Nidaros Cathedral you receive your final stamp – and your St. Olav’s Diploma, a simple but powerful symbol that you have completed the journey.

No rush.
No pressure.
Just a small group, a local guide, fresh air, and Mother Nature as the main highlight.

We proudly take it slow – because the best journeys don’t try to impress you.
They change you quietly.
